Hi everyone!
I hope you had a great weekend and that you’re enjoying The Vanishing Half! We’re so looking forward to our Movie Night on 3/24. As it turns out, hosting a screening in a theatrical venue is not a simple process! It is decidedly a very complicated process! And due to our inexperience/lack of knowledge in this screening rights arena, we’ve have had to switch films and venues for our March program in order to remain in compliance with Hollywood! That’s showbiz, baby!
Instead of screening Netflix’s Passing at FACETS, we’ll be screening Roman Holiday at Povos Gallery (1541 W Chicago Ave, Chicago, IL 60642). Roman Holiday is referenced early on in The Vanishing Half as an influential film for Desiree and Stella as young girls. And while Roman Holiday is a charming romance and The Vanishing Half is a serious meditation on race and identity, both offer compelling takes on self-reinvention and the consequences of leaving behind one’s past. Roman Holiday also offers an interesting and important contrast to the book—what does it mean when escaping one’s life is a luxury versus a necessity?
RSVP on Pie and purchase ticket through the link provided there!
Wine will still be provided, in addition to complimentary concessions! Please plan to bring your own blanket and/or pillow if you want to be extra cozy, as we’ll now be minus our movie theater seating. Cozy chic looks are encouraged! Why not!
Povos is opening a new exhibition on Saturday, 3/22, which will be on view during our private Movie Night! You can find an updated program agenda below.
