It’s been a long time coming…
Ladies Who Lit is an experiential book club that celebrates writing by women, born from my passion for good books, women’s stories, and intentional community building.
Those of you who have been around for a while know that LWL was born from an Instagram story I posted in late 2018 while going through a bad breakup. I decided to funnel my sadness into finally building an IKEA bookshelf that had been sitting in its box on my floor for at least a month collecting dust. When I was done, I posted a story of the shelf to Instagram with a simple question: “If I started a book club, would you join?” As documented in a face-first video I posted later that night (I used to be so free on IG), a “flurry of cool, smart women” said they were in.
So here we are.
Ladies Who Lit is a Chicago-based book club that celebrates writing by women. Book discussions serve as an opportunity to engage with related, contemporary cultural events throughout the city. Regardless of gender identity or expression, the LWL community is open to everyone interested in navigating these experiences through an unapologetically female lens.
A LOT has changed in the past six years, and a lot of that change—politically, socially, etc.—has been not great. But at every twist and turn, the necessity of this club and what it represents has been reaffirmed. What started six years ago as a gathering of friends has turned into a community, and that is thanks to you.
So let’s make this official, shall we? Who doesn’t want to be a Member of a club that celebrates women’s stories across mediums, including our own? Membership with LWL means you’ll get early access to all ticketed LWL programming, in addition to other fun perks. This is the beginning of a new chapter for the club, and I’m so happy to have you aboard.
